BV-200 Win 7 Ult.64 connectivity

Discuss how to set up and troubleshoot the Powerline "LinkE" Ethernet product.

BV-200 Win 7 Ult.64 connectivity

Postby krokemdman » Thu May 20, 2010 4:55 pm

My win 7 "64" computer recognizes the existence of the network , but is unable to connect. Do I need a software upgrade? I have followed all the connection instructions with no success.

@krokemdman - The BV-200 doesn't need any software to make it functional. Can you describe your setup to I can better assist you? Also when you setup the pair of the LinkE devices did you hit the group button to marry them together?
Kind regards,

Tony

One of the BV-200 units is connected by Ethernet cable to a wireless n router which is connected to the cable modem. The BV-200 is plugged into a wall outlet. On the receiving end, the other BV-200 unit is plugged into the wall and connected by Ethernet cable to my desktop computer. All instructions have been followed. The group button has been pressed. My computer lists the network but is unable to connect to the network even after entering the correct password and following all the troubleshooting instructions. I am currently connected via a usb wireless n adapter which is receiving a weak signal. When the bv-200 is connected to the target computer. The message is that it is unable to co0nnect to the unidentified public network.

@krokemdman - Ok let's do a little flight check to ensure that the common issues are resolved.

  1. The BV-200 must be plugged right into the wall outlet and not off of a power strip or extension cord, doing so will cause some interference since power strips attempt to correct irregularities in a line with some power conditioning techniques. The noise on the line in the case of a powerline Ethernet product is the signal being sent as a data transmission.
  2. When you are facing the wall outlet make sure that the Ethernet port side faces down toward the floor, if you flip flop them with one up and one down you may experience issues with communications.
  3. Ensure that there is activity on the BV-200 when you plug it into your router, then press the group button on that adapter first, go to the other BV-200 unit and then hit the group button; this should synchronize them up as a pair.

Let me know how it goes.
Kind regards,

Tony

No Change.Trouble shooting lists the following: "LAN" doesn't have a valid IP configuration and The default gateway is not available.

@krokemdman - It sounds like the LinkE is not able to pull a proper IP address from your home network. Can you verify that the LinkE attached to your network has the Ethernet light on and blinking?
Kind regards,

Tony

I'm having this same issue with a Win 7 64-bit computer. Is there a known issue here or a solution? I'm able to connect directly to the unit with a laptop through ethernet cable with no problems (which is running Win 7 / 32-bit), but when I switch the cat5 cable to the ethernet port on my desktop it sees the network as "unidentified network / public network" and cannot connect. The Windows troubleshooting list on the desktop machine mentions the LAN not having a valid IP configuration. Scratching my head here so any help appreciated. I also have 2 other BV units in the house that are connected to a PS3 and XBOX360 that have no issues.

@hoss - Within Windows 7 does it still allow you to connect to the network? I will have to look again but it may be because it is identifying it as a public network that it won't associate to it. Let me do some digging and get back to you, but try seeing if you can renew the IP on the machine.
Kind regards,

Tony

It says that I'm connected to Unidentified Network / no internet access. I've tried releasing / renewing the ip address via cmd prompt, but not able to do so as I get an error. It seems like the network isn't assigning an ip to the computer for some reason. I've tried regrouping all the BV units, swapping them around, etc. but nothing seems to work on this one machine.

@hoss - Have you tried using the online MS help to troubleshoot the OS? If you are able to get other machines to work with the LinkE and this one machine is not wanting to work, there may be a misconfiguration in the network settings or some other security check and balance that is preventing it from connecting to an "Unknown Network". Other things to check are the physical network interface card on the PC to see if there is a driver conflict preventing it from accessing your network.
Kind regards,

Tony
